I found a really good podcast along with its website, MySpanishConnection.com The website includes the transcripts from the podcast episodes along with a forum on the website and Spanish Hangman Game which is a little addicting.
The podcasts are about 15-20 minutes and are more geared to entire phrases in certain situations with grammar explanations. The latest podcast is about going to the movies. The narrator is a Spanish teacher and he gives plenty of time for the audience to repeat a word or phrase.
Each podcast has about four or five phrases with extra vocabulary. A lot of time is spent on explanations and repetition of every word, which is great. The instructor does a great job and the podcast is clear and good quality sound.

1edufone.com is the best podcast site I have found for learning Mexican spanish. I use their resources plus Pimsleur and grammar/vocab books.

2Hey, thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out. I definitely think you need a core comprehensive course then several (preferably free) smaller resources, plus a few books for references. I’ve got a few books I still haven’t posted about yet. Sounds like we’re doing about the same thing. Thanks.

3I also checked out the Spanish Connection podcast per the recommendation. I was not disappointed. The host is enthusiastic and clearly knows his stuff. I really like the listen and repeat format. I have learned the most so far from this podcast. I also purchased the PDF files that are available on the website’s store. Well worth the price to be able to see the words I am practicing. A definite A+ product.

4I think the critical thing to remember that podcasts and other approaches should be viewed as the entry point to get to the starting gates of learning Spanish. A one on one dialog is I think ideal but not always realistic given time constraints or location.
