Spanish Immersion

Everyone says the best way to learn a language is by immersion. I agree, but realistically, at a beginning level, all I hear is a bunch of words. You could probably never even hear English if you didn’t have to in America there’s so much Spanish radio, TV, books, newspapers, movies and everything else. Maybe after I understand a little more, things will start making sense.

Right now, if I listen to too much, I get a little burned out, I hear it, but I’m not listening and that probably doesn’t do much good either. Maybe after a few more lessons, translations and studying, I’ll do more “immersion” and be able to pick up at least a little bit of what’s going on on the radio or TV.

Learn by Drowning?

This is kind of the point of this article. Saying that Immersion schools are not the best way to begin learning a language. It makes sense that adults and children learn differently and that a lot of methods, including immersion try and teach a language like you were a child.

Why? When the second unofficial language in America is Spanish and in some cities it's number one. You would think there would be several immersion schools around the US. You could be in a school in El Paso or Laredo in a classroom for a few hours, then reading Spanish
