The key to being proficient in anything is to practice. The only way to practice is to incorporate your practice into your daily routine. The same time every day is the best way to make something into a habit. If you miss a day, get back on the routine as soon as possible.
To keep me from being bored by listening to the same lesson or even the same instructors over and over, I’ve also incorporated other Spanish lessons from different sources. Something short to break up the other serious lessons but to keep you thinking about and listening to Spanish. My favorite right now is Spanishpod.com It’s a short 15 minute, where they break down a short conversation, sometimes word by word. At the end the instructors talk a little conversation about some of the Mexican culture.
My routine right now is to listen to one lesson in the morning and one in the evening. Sometimes, depending on the difficulty it may be the same lesson as in the morning. The narrator in Learning Spanish Like Crazy says not to go onto the next lesson unless you can do 80% of the lesson. I’m not in a hurry or on a schedule, I’ve gone over the beginning lessons several times to try and build a good foundation because it will get harder later on.
