And the winner is… Learning Spanish Like Crazy!
Rocket Spanish
I’m sure Rocket Spanish is fine for a lot of people. Rocket seemed more “touristy”, so if you’re going on vacation that may be a better choice. The free trials from Rocket, were really lightweight. If those were the real 6 first lessons, they were really basic. Plus, Rocket has an American woman speaking Spanish and I think hearing real Hispanics speaking Spanish with their accents would be better in the real world. But that’s just me.
Learning Spanish Like Crazy
A big reason I chose Learning Spanish Like Crazy (LSLC) is that there is a Level 2. So, when you’re done with Level 1, there’s still more. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure after 30 lessons or 15 hours of either Rocket, LSLC or any program, you’re not going to be fluent and may want a more advanced course.
LSLC and Rocket have member forums, but LSLC has some video lessons and a teleconference with an instructor. Several grammar tips via email and extras come with your order such as slang and idioms (sayings).
There’s a lot to LSLC. The first five lessons I actually feel like I’ve learned a lot. Several verbs and complete (almost complex) sentences.
FSI Spanish
I also briefly checked out FSI (Foreign Service Institute) Spanish that sounds very complete and thorough, but you’re supposed to follow the lesson mp3 with a corresponding PDF. Since I wanted something that was totally audio so I could listen while I drove, this wouldn’t work very well for me.
